THREE LITTLE WORDS

There are three little words that the isolation and solitude of the past year has robbed me of saying out loud, in person.

I think about these words often, in anticipation of having the chance to speak them again. I can’t wait. I can’t wait to whisper them in the dark, just me and who I tell them to. I can’t wait to sing them out surrounded by people, in an environment full of activity and brightly lit. I can’t wait to call them from another room to someone briskly passing through, busy, listening.

For now, I hold on to them in my head, a touchstone, a guiding star that illuminates a path giving me a destination towards which to travel. The chance to say them, in the future, grants me something to hold onto, something to dream about, something to keep me going. Because I know I’ll get to say them, someday, again.

I can’t wait.

I hope it’s soon.

“Thank you, places.”
